1-Day Budget Uganda Gorilla Tour

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi · 3:00am pickup from Kigali · One hour with the gorillas

Trip overview

This Budget Gorilla Trekking takes you to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for a magnificent gorilla adventure in just a single day to view the gentle giants (Mountain Gorillas) in their unspoiled natural habitat. Bwindi hosts half of the world's surviving mountain gorillas and is covered by a diverse rain forest, home to 120 mammals and a record of 350 bird species. The park is divided into four sectors – Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhijja and Rushaga. This short gorilla trekking is designed for visitors who may not have enough time as well as those on a tight budget but wish to track gorillas in one day. Even though this one-day trip is short, it still gives a life-changing experience: rocky trails, mist-covered forest, and a hike through thick, verdant greenery, across forested slopes, and alongside serene streams.

Detailed itinerary

Kigali to Bwindi and back

The journey to Bwindi typically begins at 3:00 am with a drive northward through the Katuna border point, passing through Kabale town in Uganda, to the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park — approximately 4 hours from Kigali. You will cross the borders of Katuna or Cyanika, arriving at the park headquarters for briefing and guidelines to follow while in the jungle. After briefing, you will be divided into groups of 8 or less (depending on the season) to go into the bush to look for mountain gorillas. Depending on where these endangered animals are, this could take several hours. Upon meeting the mountain gorillas, one hour is offered for interaction — you will be able to take photos and see the animals feed and play. You will then walk back to the park headquarters to meet your driver guide, have lunch and head back to Kigali, which marks the end of your safari.
