Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale · Community women projects · Top of the world hike
This exciting trip will offer you a forest walk in search of the habituated chimpanzees in Kibale National Park. The park is famously known for its biodiversity, with a record of 13 species of primates. In the company of experienced ranger guides, you will look out for the fully habituated chimpanzees, other primates like the red colobus monkeys and L'Hoest's monkeys, as well as different bird species. Kibale National Park is regarded as the primate capital and Uganda's largest tropical rain forest. The experience of trekking and standing next to a community of chimpanzees is amazing.
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be picked up by the driver guide for a transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, located a few kilometres away from the tourism city of Fort Portal. You will have lunch, then check in for relaxation, dinner and overnight.
You will have an early morning breakfast, then transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and guidelines for the chimpanzee trekking activity. After the briefing, you will set off in the company of a park ranger to trek the chimpanzees for about 2-4 hours. Once you find them, you will be allowed an hour in their presence to observe how they feed, play and interact. After the one-hour observation, you will walk back to meet your driver guide to take you for lunch. You will then head out for your community activity, which involves visiting the women projects including basket weaving, banana juice making and coffee experiences, among other activities. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
You will have an early morning breakfast, then start your morning hike to visit different craters and hike to the top of the world. From here, you will drive back to Kampala, which marks the end of your safari.
